<image:title>Sports & Recreational - Sports and Recreational Diving</image:title>
<image:caption>Recreational scuba diving has rapidly grown in popularity in the UK however due to certain medical conditions it may be dangerous for you take part in some activities. One of the main issue’s problems can arise from is the pressure your body is subjected to whilst diving. For this reason, diving referees have the training to assess an individual’s risk. New divers On taking up diving as a sport, a medical questionnaire needs completing. If there is a medical issue, then advice and if need be a medical assessment would be required from a diving medical referee, who has been approved by the UKDMC to undertake this role Existing divers Existing divers may wish to have a medical exam following a recent diving incident, a new medical problem, after a long break from diving or you’re feeling old and would like to check it’s still safe to dive. Free Divers We’re also able to offer support, advice and examinations for existing free divers for anyone wanting to start. The Sports/Recreational Diving Medical This medical will involve The checking of your medical history A general examination paying attention to your: Ears Heart Lungs Tests to your lungs Urine tests The medical is likely to take about 30-45 minutes and should be able to decide then your fitness to dive, and supply the relevant certification. <image:title>Commercial - Commercial – HSE-approved medical.</image:title>
<image:caption>The requirements for commercial diving are understandably more stringent and require annual certification which is mandatory for the diving role. The commercial diving will be under the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) as described by the HSE. To be fit for this role , the diver would need to pass the medical to the standards required. The initial diving medical requires more preparation, with the completion by the diver of a questionnaire, and getting this countersigned by your registered GP. During the medical there will be a thorough examination which includes: A hearing test (Audiometry) Lung testing (Spirometry) Heart tracing (ECG) The medical will conclude with an aerobic fitness test (Chester Step test). If all is completed satisfactory, then a one year certificate will be completed. Subsequent medicals would not need the GP signature, and can be repeated up to 4 weeks earlier but keep the same renewal date. The medical examination would need to show good medical health, but particularly focus on weight and fitness. This is important for not only the active role, but also the ability to respond in any emergency. The medicals are offered from our office at Prescot House. Cost Commercial Offshore: £ 200 Commercial Inshore: £ 160 PADI Sports Diving Instructors : £ 140 Fees are payable by card or cash. Receipt given. If you require an OE/RUK/GWO/G41 medical certificate in addition to the HSE medical, and both are done at the same time, we offer it at half the standard price</image:caption>

      <image:title>Offshore - Offshore (OEUK/OGUK) certification / Windfarm (GWO) certification.</image:title>

The offshore medical will cover the basic medical check and include: Hearing assessment Lung assessment Visual capacity IMPORTANT - Please don’t wear contact lenses for the medical and bring glasses if used If successful, the OEUK certification will be produced then and last for 2 years. This is also accepted by the Norwegian sector. The lung assessment will satisfy the requirements for offshore survival training and also the ‘Fitness to train’ certification if satisfactory. For windfarm work, the medical would cover all required for the offshore medical but in addition ask for an assessment of aerobic fitness. This test is undertaken as a step test – The Chester Step Test is the standard test used. This also satisfies RUK/G41 standards. Cost OEUK medical £160 Fitness to train £50 Chester Step test £40 GWO/Windfarm £200 (total) Fees are payable by card or cash. Receipt given.
