About Me.

Dr Tim Fitzsimons,

I qualified from medical school in Manchester University in July 1981, and after hospital roles including A+E and Surgery, I worked as a GP in Tuebrook, Liverpool until April 2015.

During this time I undertook further training in diving and offshore medicine – Undertaking diving medicals since 2003, and offshore medicals since 2005.

I have now set up practice in Prescot House which has been approved by HSE and OGUK and UKDMC for undertaking medical examinations.

My Diving

I have been an active diver since 1997 with the local BSAC club Liverpool Dive Club. I have qualified as an advanced diver and open water instructor. The club dives the usual UK haunts using the club RIB, and training in the local quarries.

Diving safety / Training

Whilst enjoying diving, I am aware of the importance of safety in diving, with correct skills and training, good understanding of risks, and the implications of personal medical heath and the effect of health issues on any individual’s risk. To develop this further, I undertook formal diving medical training with several foundation courses based at Aberdeen University, and subsequent courses at Portsmouth.

Since being accepted as a sports diving referee, I have contact with the diving referees and attend the regular diving medical conferences.

With my training, I have also been an active member of the Wirral Hyperbaric team and involved in the assessment and treatment of divers with acute cases of DCI.
