Commercial – HSE-approved medical.

The requirements for commercial diving are understandably more stringent and require annual certification which is mandatory for the diving role.

The commercial diving will be under the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) as described by the HSE. To be fit for this role , the diver would need to pass the medical to the standards required.

The initial diving medical requires more preparation, with the completion by the diver of a questionnaire, and getting this countersigned by your registered GP.

During the medical there will be a thorough examination which includes:

  • A hearing test (Audiometry)

  • Lung testing (Spirometry)

  • Heart tracing (ECG)

The medical will conclude with an aerobic fitness test (Chester Step test).

If all is completed satisfactory, then a one year certificate will be completed.

Subsequent medicals would not need the GP signature, and can be repeated up to 4 weeks earlier but keep the same renewal date.

The medical examination would need to show good medical health, but particularly focus on weight and fitness. This is important for not only the active role, but also the ability to respond in any emergency.

The medicals are offered from our office at Prescot House.
